BORDEAUX LEADS TRADE IN EARLY 2021

As reported by Liv-ex, the results extend France’s 15 year-long streak of leading trade in the early part of a new year but last year’s decisive swing towards regions such as Italy was reflected in the three Italian wines that are taking up a good deal of volume trade so far in 2021 – including Sassicaia.
Petrus and the first growths of Lafite, Mouton Rothschild, Haut-Brion and Margaux are leading the pack when it comes to trade by value and while Beychevelle is the leading label by volume at present, it is closely followed by Castelgiocondo from Brunello di Montalcino, Fattoria le Pupille and Sassicaia.
The 2018 vintage – buoyed by the physical release of wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and California – is the most traded vintage currently.
Meanwhile, wines from Burgundy, Italy and the US have all increased their market share this January compared to the same month in 2020….
