Liv-ex reveals 'most wanted' fine wines

Liv-ex has revealed the 'most wanted' fine wines on its platform broken down by geographic location, with Bordeaux ruling the roost.

Based on data from January to July this year, Lafite was the most searched-for wine by merchants in Asia, the UK and Europe, while Margaux topped the rankings in the US, the exchange revealed on its website.

As one might expect, Haut-Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Lynch Bages, Petrus, Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Cos d'Estournel were other popular labels across all four regions.

Bordeaux labels dominated entirely, although Dom Pérignon was the third most looked-for label in the UK and Louis Roederer's Cristal was the ninth most sought after in Europe, both Champagnes breaking the claret monotony a little bit.

When it came to looking at wines by vintage though it was a slightly different story.

Lafite still topped the Asian market with its 2016 vintage being the most wanted and its 2014 was also present but in general - in line with the region's know preference for 'drinking' vintages - most of its demands were pre-2010.

The UK was generally after 2015 and 2016 claret but the most popular individual search was for the 2008 Dom Pérignon. The UK was also, intriguingly, the only market to feature a Burgundian label, Domaine Ponsot's 2016 Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes.
