Bordeaux 2018 - James Molesworth's top scoring reds

James Molesworth’s first impressions of the Bordeaux 2018 vintage were published on Wine Spectator today, including several potentially 100-point reds.

He awarded five wines the ultimate 97-100 points when tasting blind. He named Figeac “one of the highlights of the vintage” and said he suspects Palmer “will be one of the most talked about wines” this campaign.

Molesworth says that Trotanoy “helps set the bar” in 2018, while Pichon Lalande is “one of the high water marks of the vintage”. Leoville Las Cases was also full of praise for its “melted licorice notes” and “a long echo of smoldering charcoal”.

The publication clarified that a 4-point barrel range was used “to indicate that the ratings are still preliminary […] as these are unfinished wines”.

Another thirteen wines fell in the 96-99 score range – all of which can be found in the table below. You can also read Molesworth’s tasting notes here.
